  • 2 or 3 ripe avocados (mashed)
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 2 or 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (Roughly half a lime)
  • 3 drops hot sauce (or to taste)
  • 1 or 2 tablespoon plain yogurt or light sour cream (Greek yogurt is very good)
  • salt & pepper to taste


Picking the perfect avocados for guacamole

The avocados need to be ripe enough for mashing. Unripened avocados are harder and bright green. For guacamole, you need to select avocados that are a slightly dark purple tone, and are soft enough so that when press into the avocado it allows you to press into the flesh and will mash easily but still have a very fresh taste. Don’t choose ones that are too soft however as they are overripe. You can tell if they are too ripe as the flesh will be darker in appearance.


Step 1
Remove peal from avocado by slicing evenly around the entire avocado to open up. Scoop out pit and with a large spoon scoop avocado flesh into medium size bowl. Mash with fork or masher until fairly smooth. Add garlic, chilli powder, sour cream, hot sauce, lime juice and salt and pepper and mix well with fork or spoon.

You can adjust levels of taste any ingredient depending on hot or spicy you wish.

Once the mixture is well mixed you can refrigerate for a couple of hours for ingredients to blend. When ready to serve top with large dollop of salsa and serve with nacho chips. You can also serve salsa on the side.
