Beef Vegetable Stew


  • 1lb stew beef
  • 1 finely diced cooking onion
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons worchestershire sauce
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 large carrots chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped turnip
  • 1/2 green beans or peas (or both)
  • salt & pepper to taste


Step 1
Add olive oil and garlic to large pot. Chop the onion into fine pieces and add to garlic mixture. Cook until onions are softened.
Step 2
Chop the beef into smaller bite size pieces. (Especially if you plan to use this stew for Puff Pastry recipe). Once the onions are softened add the beef into the pot and let simmer and brown slightly, mixing well with onions.
Step 3
Add salt and pepper, worchestershire sauce, tomato paste and bay leaves and mix well. Add flour and make sure the beef and onions are well coated. Add splash of red wine and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
Step 4
Add in beef broth and remaining vegetables and stir all is blended thoroughly. You can transfer to crock pot at this point to cook slowly or you can leave on the stove and allow to simmer on medium low heat for 2 or 3 hours or unitl meat is tender.
