This Oven-Baked Pork Ribs recipe is slow-baked with a dry rub and finished with a homemade bbq sauce. This recipe includes a homemade version of BBQ sauce but works just as well with your own favourite sauce. I like that this recipe is very simple, with no boiling involved, and the slow bake makes them so tender.
Prepping the Ribs
The ribs are prepped by rinsing them with water and then pat dry. You will want to remove the membrane on the back of the ribs. The membrane will be tough and chewy when cooked. Removing it will make the ribs more tender and allow the rub and sauce to soak in.
The ribs are rubbed with a dry rub combination and baked with bone side down low and slow until tender. Finish off with your favourite sauce and bake – and broil – for a nice crispy finish.
Sides with Oven-Baked Ribs
Oven-Baked Ribs go great with mashed potatoes or homemade wedges, fresh corn on the cob, coleslaw, or potato salad.
Oven-Baked Pork Ribs
Ingredients
Dry rub
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1 Rack of pork side ribs
BBQ Sauce
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 2 tsp Worchestershire sauce
- 1 or 2 cloves finely chopped garlic
- 1/2 tsp finely ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Cover a cookie sheet with foil. Place an additional piece of foil on top and place ribs on top.
- Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and discard.
- Combine all dry spice ingredients and stir to combine. Rub the mixture on both sides of the ribs. Wrap snuggly in foil and place in oven. Bake for 2 hours until tender.
BBQ Sauce
- Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Stir to evenly combine and simmer on medium heat to a low boil. Turn down and let simmer for about 15 or 20 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Once the ribs have been baked, remove the foil and place them on a metal rack on the cookie sheet. Brush both sides with BBQ sauce and place back in the oven for about 15 minutes or until the sauce carmelizes. If you want the ribs a little extra crispy, finish them under the broiler for 3 or 4 minutes.
